Richard Hutten is considered today as one of the leading Dutch designers of his generation. Involved in Droog Design since its very beginning, he graduated from Eidhoven design school before opening his studio now based in Rotterdam. He collaborated with various major companies and customers such as : Sawaya & Moroni, Covo, Moooi, Christofle, Idée, Muji, Karl Lagerfeld… He has also been involved in important interior design: The restaurant of the Centraal Museum (Utrecht), Gemeente Museum (The Hague), Suntory Museum (Osaka). His work can be found in several significant museum collections including the Vitra design Museum, Design Museum London, MoMa New-York and San-Francisco, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam among others. Sometimes referred to as the new Rietveld, Hutten strives for radical simplicity and intuitive functionality in his work. He gained reputation for his industrial design through pieces such as the Dumbo or his series No sign of design. Richard Hutten has been honoured with many awards, including Design plus, Frankfurt, 1996, and the Golden Monkey award, Tokyo, 2001.
